Package # 5 (Pre-finalized)

It took a lot of sleuthing, but I finally tracked down the new location for Rexburg's animal shelter. I went in expecting to do the shoot and be done with it, but ended up finding myself wanting to know all I could about the shelter. Not mentioned in the video, but the limited hours of operation are due to lack of volunteers, and they're always looking for more volunteers. I'm definitely going to do so when I come back in the fall. When stuck in apartments that don't allow for pets, it's great to have a way to fulfill the need to pet and play with animals.

In any case, enjoy this 'rough draft' version of my video submission:

Package # 4

Did you know that BYU-Idaho has a Family History Center? Until recently, I didn't! It's a fully-functioning center, too, more than what we have back in my home stake. I was originally planning on doing my story on the Family History Lab downstairs in the library, but after interviewing Brother Poole and finding all the main Family History Center had to offer, I focused on that instead.

Package # 3

Disclaimer: It's been a crazy week so I couldn't get the b-roll I really would have preferred to. That, and the tripod I rented out was a piece of...well, not quite garbage. Perhaps glorified refuse.

In any case, I asked a few students what they thought about the culture of BYU-Idaho. None were actually from the area, which made it interesting to see the things they liked, the things they didn't, and overall what they thought about the campus. Sadly, I had to edit out a lot of the extra commentary, so you get this short clip instead:

Package #2

It's no secret I'm taking a sewing class (make that three), but what is it about sewing that keeps it alive and well in the modern age? Sister Lammons was gracious enough to allow me to interview her on sewing, why she does it, why she teaches it, and so forth. A few sewing students were even kind enough to add in their comments as well:

Package #1

This is the first and last time I do a political piece in Idaho. It started off seeming like a good idea, but just hearing how people reacted to Barack Obama becoming president had me fearing I would be beaten up and left in an alley. Never mind that Rexburg doesn't really have alleys on campus...but that's beside the point.

Here's what I dared to gather on random peoples' thoughts on our new president.

Note: This is the last time I listen to what another student says is the due date... I thought I had until next Wednesday, hence why this post is so late. The class calendar is a permanent fixture on my desktop now!

Class Intro: Interview

I recently had the pleasure to interview a classmate, Matt Brandley, for our Multimedia Journalism Class. Final Cut Pro put up a most worthy battle, but I was able to tame it in the end! Enjoy:
